Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the championship lead from his teammate by one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, trailing 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his Red Bull team followed a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, though minor, when he rotated at the fourth corner during the early running.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before rotating through the escape zone, and was lucky to escape with just a slight brush of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the conclusion of the session, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho corner leading to the final corner on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in P19, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
